National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council's Mass Fire Evacuation Drill 2014
03 September 2014

The annual Mass Fire Evacuation Drill (MFED) 2014 campaign was launched at Jurong Point Shopping Centre this afternoon. Approximately 2000 people comprising staff and also members of the public took part in the drill. This event marks the start of the month-long campaign to promote fire safety and emergency preparedness in both commercial and industrial premises.

The MFED campaign for commercial and industrial premises started in 2005. Organised by the National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council (NFEC) and supported by the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the MFED is one of the NFEC"s key calendar activities. As of this week, more than 110 premises have registered for the mass fire evacuation drill; an estimated participation of 16,000 people is expected for the month long MFED campaign.

QUOTE BY MR ALAN LOH, CHAIRMAN OF NFEC

"NFEC is pleased to partner with Jurong Point Shopping Centre to launch the annual Mass Fire Evacuation Drill (MFED). It is crucial for mall owners to be vigilant and ready to handle a major crisis. A fire evacuation drill helps to better equip key stakeholders with knowledge and skills to respond when an emergency occurs. We are confident of a healthy participation for this year"s MFED"
