Island-wide Sounding of The Public Warning System (PWS) on Monday, 15 February 2016 at 6:20 PM
12 February 2016

In support of Total Defence (TD) Day, the SCDF will be sounding the "Important Message" signal through the island-wide network of Public Warning System (PWS) sirens on Monday, 15 February 2016 at 6:20 pm.

Members of the public are advised not to be alarmed by the minute-long sounding exercise. When the signal is sounded, members of the public can immediately tune in to any local radio stations for a brief message on the PWS.

The PWS siren is sounded at 6:20 pm on 15 February to mark the time in which the British had surrendered to the Japanese Imperial Forces on this fateful day in 1942. This serves to give due significance and remembrance to this historical moment, and underscores the importance for Singaporeans to defend our homeland. In addition, it reiterates the importance of emergency preparedness and contributes to the overall objective of commemorating TD Day.

Members of the public are also encouraged to learn more about the PWS signals and other emergency procedures here.
