Factory Fire At No. 6, Defu Lane 1
22 October 2006

On Sunday, 22th October 2006 at 11:52pm, the SCDF was alerted to a factory on fire at No. 6, Defu Lane 1.

SCDF responded to the incident within 6 minutes with 3 Fire Engines, 2 Light Fire Attack Vehicles and 4 support appliances. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the rear portion of the 1-storey furniture factory cum warehouse was well alight. The fire involved an area of approximately 15 metres by 30 metres containing timber raw materials and wooden furniture.

Firefighters immediately set out to fight the fire with a total of 9 water jets and 1 water monitor. The water jets and monitor were deployed strategically to fight the fire from both sides of the factory as well as to prevent the fire from spreading laterally to the adjacent factory premises. Firefighters also made use of cutting tools to gain access through the zinc wall partitions to effectively reach the seat of the fire. Ventilation equipment was also deployed to ventilate the heavily smoked-logged area.

The fire was brought under control by 40 firefighters within half an hour. No one was injured in the fire.

The cause of fire is currently under investigation.
