At 0536hrs, SCDF received a call informing that there was an accident involving 2 lorries at the road shoulder of BKE (towards Woodlands) near Mandai Exit after Gali Batu Flyover.
Upon receiving the notification, SCDF resources which included 1 Fire Engine, 1 LFAV, 1 SRT, 1 Ambulance and 1 Rescue Tender were despatched immediately to above-mentioned location.
On arrival, the crew found the driver of the rear lorry trapped at the driver"s seat. The impact of the collision made it difficult to separate the 2 lorries, thereby creating a narrow working space for SCDF rescuers. The rescue effort took SCDF rescuers about 30 minutes to extricate the trapped driver using hydraulic spreaders and hydraulic rams.
The trapped driver was pronounced dead by SCDF paramedic at the scene at about 0633 hrs. The victim sustained multiple injuries.
