News Release

Island-Wide Public Testing of SG Alert on 10 May 2026 at 12pm

On 10 May 2026 (Sunday) at 12pm, SCDF will conduct an island-wide public testing1 of the SG Alert for SingTel network2 users as part of the first phase roll-out of the mass emergency alert system.

SG Alert will be used during emergencies such as major fires, chemical or terror incidents, to enable authorities to quickly alert the public to take immediate action to protect themselves.

During the testing on 10 May 2026, members of the public connected to the SingTel network, including foreign visitors on data-only eSIM plans, will receive an alert on their mobile phones, even without being connected to the internet. Members of the public are advised not to be alarmed.

The SG Alert will appear as a pop-up notification with the header 'SG Alert', and will be accompanied by a unique alert tone and distinct vibration pattern lasting up to 10 seconds. The SG Alert will also be able to bypass a mobile phone's "do not disturb" or silent mode setting, to ensure members of public are informed in a timely manner during emergencies. For older phone models, the alert may appear with a 'Presidential alert' header instead of 'SG Alert' due to compatibility issues.

No mobile application downloads or account registrations are required to receive the SG Alert. However, the mobile phones will need to be updated with the latest operating system (OS) to ensure uninterrupted access to SG Alert. SG Alert is only supported on phones running on the latest Apple iOS 26.4 or later, or Android OS 12 and above, with the latest Google Play system update from 1 Feb 2026 onwards.

SG Alert will subsequently be rolled out to StarHub's network by end-2026, followed by M1's network and SIMBA's network by mid-2027. For more information about the SG Alert, please visit go.gov.sg/sgalert.

1 The island-wide public testing on 10 May was previously announced by local media following the media visit and demonstration on SG Alert, organised by SCDF on 17 April.

2 Users who are subscribed to Singtel hosted Mobile Virtual Network Operations, such as Gomo, VIVIFI, Zero1, Zym mobile etc will also receive the SG Alert.
