Two decades ago, SCDF published In Safe Hands to chronicle its formative years from 1989 to 2000. This commemorative book continues that journey, capturing SCDF’s transformation since the early 2000s.
Since 2000, the SCDF has gradually built its emergency response capabilities through innovation and the adoption of advanced technologies. Notably, the introduction of the Light Fire Attack Vehicle and the deployment of unmanned firefighting machines have redefined SCDF’s emergency response strategy. SCDF’s emergency medical services (EMS) have also evolved. Today, EMS resources are optimised by leveraging data science and ambulances are deployed to where they are needed most.
Beyond building operational capabilities, SCDF has proactively involved the community in emergency preparedness. Apart from equipping the community with lifesaving skills, SCDF also connects with them through the myResponder mobile application, empowering the community to protect and save lives and property. These collective efforts have integrated emergency preparedness into daily life, building “A Nation of Lifesavers” for a safe and secure Singapore.
