Rescue 995 engaged in an interview with WO1 Benjamin Peh, a Fire & Rescue Commander, now on MHA Scholarship, and LTA Jadyn Toh, an Instructing Officer with the Civil Defence Academy to share with us their motivations and journey from the National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC) to being career officers with the Life Saving Force.

Paramedic Turned Fire and Rescue Officer

You would have read or heard the news media coverage on Lieutenant Janice Lee. She was an SCDF paramedic then who was part of the four-member ambulance crew commended by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for providing professional medical intervention on Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat when he collapsed during a Cabinet meeting in 2016. This year, Janice was part of the graduating batch of SCDF officer cadets who have successfully completed the Rota Commander Course (RCC), an eight-month SCDF’s Fire and Rescue Commanders’ course and will be posted to the fire stations as shift/Rota commanders. Rescue 995 engaged the freshly minted Rota Commander Lieutenant (LTA) Janice Lee in an exclusive interview. She first joined SCDF in 2009 as a paramedic at Central Fire Station, holding the rank of Senior Staff Sergeant (SSGT).

In Conversation with Anthony Chen, former SCDF NSF turned Film-Director

ACE Stellar Awardee Wants To Be There For Disaster-Stricken Communities

CPT Amelia Lim, a graduate from the AHA Centre Executive (ACE) Programme in November 2019, was one of the three outstanding participants who were awarded the ACE Stellar Award. For this programme’s intake, CPT Amelia is the only Singaporean among 18 representatives from the 10 Asean countries. She is also the first female SCDF officer to be a member of the Asean Emergency Response and Assessment Team and a certified leader in disaster management.

On a Wednesday afternoon, 19 February 2020, SCDF received a call for a medical emergency incident at Yishun Polyclinic. Forgoing their lunch, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel from Yishun Fire Station swung into action. Within minutes, the crew arrived at the scene donned in their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and attended to the patient.

On 12 March 2020, the Civil Defence Lionhearter (CDLH) Club at Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD) clinched the Jyoti and Aditya Mathur Student Achievement Award for being the Outstanding Student Organisation at SUTD. Adam Idris Lim Wei, a second-year student at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), is the President of the school’s Civil Defence (CD) Lionhearter Club and an SCDF scholar with a curious and innovative mind. Adam joined the Lionhearter Club in his first year as he wanted to contribute to society in a meaningful way by applying his first-aid skillsets which he honed during his National Service with the SCDF.
