On 4 January 2023, HomeTeamNS celebrated the official opening of its latest clubhouse at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir.

As the new waterfront haven opened its doors to members and guests, HomeTeamNS Clubhouse Development Committee (East) Co-Chairman Assistant Commissioner (AC) Kadir Maideen, Vice-Chairman Lieutenant Colonel (NS) Nicholas Lee, and Member SGT2 (NS) Shawn Quek reflected back on their conceptualisation of the HomeTeam NS Clubhouse and their shared vision of how it will serve the Home Team community.

BUILDING THE GREEN WAY

With its beautiful waterfront setting and lush greenery, the idyllic environment of Bedok Reservoir was chosen to be the home of the latest clubhouse for HomeTeamNS. However, blending the clubhouse into such a scenic location comes with unique challenges. Throughout the planning phase, it was a challenge to incorporate all the facilities and spaces into the clubhouse, while still incorporating the building seamlessly into the pristine and nature-rich environment. This was no easy task for the planning and development team, who painstakingly went through each and every detail very carefully.

“We wanted to build a clubhouse and at the same time, we wanted to preserve nature,” explained AC Kadir. “We conducted a biodiversity survey, even before our consultants did an assessment of the surrounding flora and fauna. We did not want the building design to be too cold and blocky, which would stand out in stark contrast against such a scenic reservoir setting.”

Thankfully, the project's consultants, architects, and contractors ensured that these challenges were successfully overcome. After several rounds of design renditions and discussions, the final version of the clubhouse, which you see today, features vertical fins which were inspired by the shape of trees around the reservoir. This serves as a unique attraction to our Home Team NSmen and their guests.

Staying true to its principles of sustainability and nature preservation, the clubhouse uses materials and paint coatings that reduce heat gain, and the infrastructure is fitted with energy-efficient and smart lighting systems, including “blue and green” roofs that harness solar power and rainfall. These green efforts helped the clubhouse achieve the BCA Green Mark Platinum award.

TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN CLUBHOUSE

As part of the HomeTeamNS Clubhouse Masterplan, HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir features state-of-the-art attractions.

AC Kadir cited the Action Motion as an example. A first in Singapore, this digital active experience arena features obstacle courses and rock-climbing walls with a gamified user experience across its various action zones. Users receive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) enabled wrist tags that record the points accumulated when scanned at each obstacle course. Users can check their live scores on the facility’s leaderboard and have some friendly competition among themselves.

SGT2 (NS) Quek is confident that the East Villa, comprising 10 cosy waterfront, garden-facing  villas, will be a big hit among HomeTeamNS members. He added, “The villas will be excellent for families and friends to enjoy quality time together. With the picturesque Bedok Reservoir as the background setting, these villas are ideal for family gatherings or a quiet getaway within Singapore.” East Villa features smart and secure, keyless, and dynamic QR code access to the rooms via the HomeTeamNS Mobile App.

Those looking for less-competitive, family-friendly activities for all ages will be drawn to the clubhouse’s array of fun water activities. LTC (NS) Lee especially looked forward to using Singapore’s longest indoor water slide at the Aqua Adventure . “I can’t wait to let my kids have a go!”

DESIGNED WITH HOME TEAM NSMEN IN MIND

When overseeing the development of the Bedok Reservoir clubhouse, the committee did meticulous research and surveys to understand the desired facilities and needs of Home Team NSmen. At the top of their wish-lists were space and facilities for interaction and gatherings, a family-oriented environment, and last but not least, a clubhouse that they are proud to be associated with.

AC Kadir hoped that HomeTeamNS members would include their colleagues and families when utilising the Bedok Reservoir clubhouse: “We want our members to know that HomeTeamNS is very appreciative of all NSmen, active or reserve. And we are grateful for their contributions to NS. We hope to look after their needs, through splendid clubhouse facilities, not only in Bedok Reservoir but across all the other clubhouses and programmes we organise at HomeTeamNS.”
