Standing United with SCDF Frontline Personnel to Overcome COVID-19 Crisis

From the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, Singapore’s healthcare and frontline workers have been working round-the-clock to provide care to fellow Singaporeans, keeping them safe at the same time.

On 16 February 2020, Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance visited Kallang Fire Station, where he met and interacted with about 30 regular officers and Full-time National Servicemen. The group of officers comprised of personnel from SCDF’s Operations Centre, Emergency Medical Services, Special Rescue Unit, 2nd SCDF Division and the swabbing teams involved in the operations at government quarantine facilities.

During the visit, DPM was briefed on SCDF’s involvement in the ongoing national response to COVID-19 as part of their day-to-day operations, which includes the triaging of medical calls received by SCDF 995 emergency hotline for suspected COVID-19 cases, supporting temperature-screening operations at Changi Airport, and conducting swab testing on people who are housed at the government quarantine facilities.

A demonstration of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worn by frontline Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crew and the decontamination of an ambulance was also shown to DPM.

In addition, our Team Singapore athletes were also present at the event to show their support to our heroes and heroines in blue. This heart-warming gesture demonstrated the best of Singapore’s spirit to stand united to overcome this outbreak and emerge stronger as a nation.
