Leave Scheme

NSF can apply for and are granted the following types of leave:

Vacation Leave

NSF are entitled to 14 days of leave per year. If service is less than a calendar year, leave is calculated proportionately to the length of service.

Weekend Off

During residential training at the National Service Training Institute (NSTI), NSF can take weekends off from Friday evening until 9.00pm on Sunday night. However, they may be required to stay in the camp on some weekends for standby duties.

Sick Leave

All NSF should consult their Unit Medical Officer (MO) if they fall sick. Sick leave can only be issued and endorsed with a valid Medical Certificate (MC). MCs must be authorised by a government doctor / SCDF MO or registered private practitioner. MCs issued by Chinese 'sinsehs' and spiritual healers will not be accepted. NSF must inform their unit and submit the MC immediately after reporting back to work.

Compassionate Leave

Compassionate leave may only be granted to NSF if they have no leave balance and are faced with either of the following circumstances:

  • Dangerous illness, imminent death, or death of wife, child, parent or next-of-kin
  • Serious domestic problems where the NSF presence is essential to avoid domestic hardship.
