Fire at Blk 137 Petir Road

At 10.14 am this morning, SCDF was activated to a fire at Blk 137 Petir Road, #04-426. 2 Fire Bikes, 1 Fire Engine, 1 Light Fire Attack Vehicle (Red Rhino), 2 Ambulances and 1 support vehicle were immediately dispatched to the incident location and arrived at scene within 6 minutes.

Fire involved the contents of a bedroom within a 4-room unit. Upon SCDF"s arrival, four occupants (2 children and 2 teenagers) had already self-evacuated from the affected unit. Fire fighters donned their breathing apparatus sets and penetrated into the burning bedroom with a 38mm water jet. The bedroom was fully engulfed in flames but fire fighters brought the raging fire under control within 10 minutes. At the same time, SCDF paramedics promptly assessed the four young occupants. There were no visible injuries as a result of this fire.

Fire damage was only confined to the affected bedroom where the fire is believed to have originated. Preliminary investigations by SCDF indicated that the fire started as a result of the children playing with a lighter.

SCDF would like to once again remind the public on the need to be fire safety conscious at all times. Materials such as matches, lighters and candles should be kept out of the reach of young children. Children should also be educated on the dangers and hazards of fires.
