Factory Fire at Tuas South Street 3

On Saturday 12 Aug 2006 at about 4.47a.m., SCDF was alerted to a fire incident at 32 Tuas South Street 3.

SCDF arrived at scene within seven minutes. Resources despatched to this incident included three fire engines, four Red Rhinos, six support vehicles and. Upon arrival, SCDF personnel found that the factory was locked and that the single-storey production-cum-storage area of the factory was already fully engulfed in flames.

The 60-man SCDF team immediately began fire-fighting operations by first gaining access into the premises using forcible entry tools. A total of 13 water jets were also set up at the boundaries of the factory (measuring 50m by 100m) in order to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjoining double-storey office block and neighbouring premises.

The fire involved bales of highly flammable industrial plastic which were stacked to the roof both within and along the driveways in some areas of the factory. Fire fighters had to deploy foam in combating the fire as such fires are not easily extinguished. As a result of the intense fire, the zinc roof sheltering the production and storage area caved in.

The fire was brought under control within half an hour. No one was injured. The cause of fire is currently under investigation.
