SCDF Conveyed Students Attacked By Bees

The SCDF was alerted today at 12.37pm to attend to a group of students who were attacked by bees at the Labrador Park. SCDF ambulances and a Personnel Decontamination Vehicle* (PDV) were swiftly deployed.

Upon arrival, SCDF found a group of students and a teacher stung by bees on their necks, arms and legs. SCDF paramedics immediately set up a triage to assess the casualties and segregate those with more serious injuries.

A total 51 casualties were conveyed to the hospital " 16 students and 1 teacher to National University Hospital by SCDF ambulances and 34 students to KK Women"s and Children"s Hospital by PDV.

* The Personnel Decontamination Vehicle (PDV) was introduced in April 2003 as a 4-in-1 vehicle specially designed by the SCDF to handle mass-casualty decontamination situations. Apart from functioning as a troop and rescue-equipment carrier, its dual sheltered decontamination lanes can be speedily set up in under 7 minutes to decontaminate about 60 walking casualties and 10 lying casualties per hour. Separately, the PDV can also be used as an improvised ambulance to convey casualties to hospital.
