02 Apr 2001Set-up of the Computer Fire Modeling Training Centre or Q-Lab at the Civil Defence Academy which will allow SCDF to conduct fire tests of materials and quantify the expected size of fires in different situations.
13 Aug 2001The SCDF received the $10,000 MHA Outstanding Work Improvement Teams (WIT) Award for the Red Rhino project. It was the first and largest award of its kind given out by MHA for a WITs project.
31 Oct 2001The "Watermist Technology for Frontline Fire Fighting" received two awards at The Enterprise Challenge (TEC) Awards - the Enterprise award and the Innovator award.
12 Dec 2001Two of SCDF's projects - CanineCam and SkyCam received a $7,800 and $10,000 funding respectively from the MHA Innovation Award.

20 Feb 2002The Commissioning Parade of the 27 th Basic Officer Cadet (BOC) was held at the training academy. Among the cohort of graduates, for the first time, were 2 senior-ranking officers from the Brunei Fire Services Department.
09 May 2002The SCDF Innoventureland was also officially opened by PS (HA) on his visit to the SCDF HQ Complex. The opening was marked by the symbolic tearing down of a 'brick wall' of barriers against innovation.
24 May 2002The Civil Defence Heritage Gallery participated in its first ever MuseumFest at Suntec Singapore . As a member of the National Heritage Board's Musuem Roundtable, the Gallery brought the rich history of Civil Defence in Singapore to the masses over the course of the festival.
01 Jun 2002The SCDF Internet website was completely revamped, redesigned from the ground-up with our customers in mind. The new site features a variety of useful information about the Force, including a CD Info Centre will have all news relating to SCDF including our latest statistics. An ever-growing list of services available on the new site include a full range of online and downloadable forms, application for CD Courses, requests for SCDF publications, and requests for visits to our various facilities.
09 Jul 2002The SCDF Career Resource Centre was officially launched. This online resource available through the Intranet provides all staff with information regarding the various people management systems in SCDF. It seeks to enhance awareness of the career opportunities in SCDF to the staff as well as communicate the Career Development Plan. The opening of this web-based centre marks a significant step towards a more open HR system in SCDF.
31 Jul 2002Mr Wong Kan Seng, Minister for Home Affairs, visited Sengkang Fire Station at the launching of the Immediate Response Company Standby. The Minister was given a briefing on the IRC enhanced capabilities in handling chemical threats, and also viewed the NSMen of the IRC putting up an impressive Hazmat mitigation display.
Aug 2002Launch of Fire Safety On-line Processing System (FISOPS). It supercedes the Home Affairs On-line Management System (HOLMS). All documents, including building plans, are loaded into the system and are retrievable on-line. Besides eliminating the need for microfilming and physical storage, it has addressed the problems of the time wasted in file movement as well as the possibility of lost files. The imaging system is also certified against the Evidence Act.
08 Sep 2002The CD Skills For Charity Flagship event was held at the Bishan Stadium. This marked the finale of the SCDF's year-long efforts towards the President's Challenge 2002. A cheque for over $1.14 million was presented to the President, His Excellency Mr SR Nathan, by Comr James Tan in an action-packed programme featuring a telematch amongst the highest contributing CDECs as well as a group of MediaCorp artistes.
15 Sep 2002Following the success of last year's Mystery PWS Signal Contest, a second contest was held this year in conjunction with our annual CD Day sounding of the Public Warning System. Over 75% of participants correctly identified the signal, an encouraging 15% more than last year.
23 Sep 2002As part of the Presidential tour of uniformed organisations and public institutions, His Excellency Mr SR Nathan, the President of Singapore, visited the SCDF at the Civil Defence Academy.
15 Dec 2002The SCDF conducted its first Open Mobilisation of its Operationally Ready CD National Servicemen. Responding to code words and symbols flashed and announced over the main broadcast media, over 99% of the activated CD NSMen reported back to their operational base promptly.

08 Jan 2003The first phase done of the Crisis Information Management System (CIMS) was completed and the system was deployed in Ex Nucleus IV. As part of an effort to enhance operational effectiveness through Information Management, the system will manage the flow of information starting from the Divisions and the various staff cells to the highest decision making body at the Command Room.
14 Feb 2003In celebration of Total Defence Day, the SCDF along with the various other Home Front agencies supported the Ministry of Defence in five Total Defence Roadshows. The roadshows were be held over five consecutive weekends covering the five CDCs. They were launched by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Dr Tony Tan, at the Toa Payoh HDB Hub on 14 Feb 2003 , and ended on 16 Mar 2003 . Each roadshow had sections emphasizing the five pillars of Total Defence.
01 Apr 2003The Hazmat Transportation Driver's Permit (HTDP) scheme was introduced to control the transportation of hazardous materials in Singapore . The permit will only be issued to the drivers after undergoing screening, as well as prerequisite training and a required test.
27 May 2003The SCDF introduced the CSSP GuideTool at the CDEC briefing conducted at HQ, SCDF. An in-house production developed from the collaboration between the SCDF and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, the software guides members of the community on how to craft proper CSSPs to resolve problems faced at the community level.
29 May 2003The SCDF Quality Service Handbook was officially launched in conjunction with the SCDF PS21 Day. The Handbook contains 16 Quality Service Indicators (QSIs), which serve as standards for our personnel as well as SCDF's service pledges to the public.
11 Jul 2003To raise funds for those affected by SARS, the SCDF organised the Musical Charity Drive held at the Auditorium of HQ, SCDF. Over 200 guests were treated to a masterpiece performance SCDF's very own Combo Band and guests performers. The proceeds of more than $38,000 went to the Courage Fund.
26 Jul 2003Exercise Community Spirit (ECS) 67, the first ECS to be based on the topics of unconventional threats and anti-terrorism topics, was successfully conducted by 4th CD Division at Jurong West.
24 Aug 2003The Home Fire Safety Visit Programme was launched. Under the programme, CD volunteers and CDEC members visited the homes of residents who registered themselves on a voluntary basis, and provide advice on fire safety tips using a checklist.
06 Sep 2003The In-Place Protection (IPP) procedure was officially launched to the public by Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, at the SCDF Community Bonding Day 2003 held at CDA on 6 & 7 Sep. New mobile IPP training simulators were also introduced to the public, to allow hands-on practice in carrying out the measure.
06 - 07 Sep 2003The SCDF Community Bonding Day was successfully held at CDA. Over 10,000 residents, led by the CDECs and members of other public institutions were treated to an awesome display of rescue operations, equipment as well as information on terrorism related topics at the academy during the two-day event.
20 Sep 2003The Emergency Preparedness (EP) Day, a scaled-down exercise of the ECS held monthly to reach out to the heartlanders and prepare them for unconventional threats, was launched by the four CD Divisions simultaneously at Queenstown, Kampong Chai Chee, Nee Soon South and Taman Jurong.
22 Sep 2003The Community Emergency Preparedness Programme (CEPP) was officially launched. Consisting of five modules, the programme aims to enhance community emergency preparedness in light of the new security environment through intensive public training.
06 Oct 2003Arising from feedback, the SCDF reviewed and adapted the Storey Shelter (SS) technical requirements to allow fire escape staircases to be doubled up as SS. The staircase SS offers another option, apart from the Household Shelters and normal Storey Shelters, for developers to provide for new private residential developments. The new provision introduces greater flexibility in the design and layout of dwelling units in Singapore.
01 Nov 2003The annual Fire Safety Campaign was officially launched at the Atrium@Orchard. Running from 1 Nov to 9 Nov 2003 , the year's campaign comprised of multiple events, from Roving Exhibitions held at high-profile venues, to the deployment of 34 CD volunteers at 15 petrol kiosks to promote fire-safety awareness by distributing fire safety leaflets to the motorists.
04 - 06 Nov 2003The Civil Defence Academy hosts the United Nations Disaster Assessment & Coordination (UNDAC) Refresher Course for 32 of its representatives from 19 countries. The first such course to be held in Asia , it aimed to enhance the capacity of the UNDAC system in the Asia region in responding to sudden-onset natural disasters or complex civil emergencies.
Dec 2003SCDF's e-Services for NSmen were further enhanced through the introduction of Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) and Short Message Service (SMS) facilities for overseas travel notifications.

01 Jan 2004The allowance rates for SCDF frontline personnel, such as, DART, Hazmat and Paramedic Specialists were revised upwards in recognition of the tougher requirements on SCDF's frontline personnel in the prevailing security climate.
05 Feb 2004An enhanced version of the e-CSR (electronic-Course & Seminar Registration) was implemented to accommodate a wider selection of course choices for members of the public. Offering greater convenience on the checking of course schedules and booking, the public can now apply online for the CEPP or for CD Volunteer courses.
Mar 2004The Mobile Fire Post (MFP) was concept was introduced to further enhance the SCDF's operational coverage and cut response times. Existing satellite Fire Posts (SFPs) are not viable in certain areas where there are no structures/buildings available to construct the SFPs due to changes in the traffic patterns, for eg, temporary closure of roads or diversion. The MFP, with typical Fire Post facilities fitted onto a vehicle, can be quickly and easily deployed for such situations, as well as for standby operations for major event or in areas where fire calls become increasingly frequent.
Mar 2004The Automated Recall Mobilisation System (ARMS) was commissioned. It has the ability to contact 1,000 NSmen and process 500 acknowledgements within 15 minutes.
12 Mar 2004At an award ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt, the SCDF received the CIO Award 2004 for her demonstration of sound business practices, particularly through FISOPS, the innovative implementation of e-government services to enhance fire safety and allow SCDF to perform its job better. The CIO 100 is an annual ranking of innovative Asian organisations that are driving new best practices and the Award recognises outstanding private or public enterprises/organisations in Asia that have added value and driven innovation through the strategic application of IT.
08 Apr 2004To keep up with changes in technology, SCDF deployed Autonomy's technology to power its IKNOW portal (Intranet). This enables SCDF personnel to have a single point of access to a vast quantity of updated information held throughout the organisation as well as enable automatic connection to relevant specialists in real- time, to ensure wise use of critical and relevant information. Such innovation is featured in an article on Yahoo's Business website.
14 May 2004Civil Defence educational material was made available in an animated version on the SCDF Internet website. Arranged in 7 broad categories, it covered the following - Fire Safety, First Aid, Emergency Ambulance Service, Man-made Emergencies, Natural Emergencies, Emergency Procedures and Protection - each further consists of related topics for easier navigation.
19 May 2004State Awards were given to the SCDF officers involved in the Nicoll Highway Operation. The heroic efforts shown by SCDF rescuers to retrieve the bodies trapped in the rubble was recognized by the government.
08 Jun 2004An on-line customer feedback management system, I-Feedback, has been developed to enhance the management, control and monitoring of public feedback received by SCDF.
09 Nov 2004SCDF Heritage Gallery welcomed its 100 000th visitor. He is Mr Peter Burgess, Director of Transnational Programs from Macquarie University , Sydney , Australia .
29 Dec 2004In the light of the earthquake (9.0 on the Richter Scale) and the resultant tsunamis, in several South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, the SCDF deployedtwo overseas contingents, one each to Aceh , Indonesia and Phuket , Thailand respectively, to assist in the search and rescue efforts in these tsunami-hit areas.

With the varied appliances on display, the public will be able to better comprehend the diverse operational capability of SCDF and other fire fighting supporting agencies. On this day, one of the appliances on display will be replaced with the donated fire appliance from Mobil - the Triple agent Loadstar 1800.
17 Aug 2005As part of Singapore "s offer of assistance, SCDF overseas contingent was deployed to Pekan Baru, Sumatra to tackle the regional haze problem arising from fires at Sumatra island.
30 Aug 2005Enhancements on Hazmat Transport Vehicles Tracking System (HTVTS). With effect from 1 Oct 2005 , Hazmat transport vehicles which deviate from the approved routes and approved time schedule would set off the vehicles" hazards lights and horn. Once triggered, it is mandatory for the drivers to safely pull over at the side of the road to await for investigation by Police and SCDF Mobile Enforcement Teams.

The MVBS is a convenient, versatile and "language-friendly" public education system which usesthe latest multimedia technology to broadcast videos in four languages. 04 Oct 2005The SCDF was conferred with the 2005 Singapore Quality Award (SQA). This prestigious award is a recognition of the Force"s strong commitment to protect and save live and property for a safe and secure Singapore.
6 Oct 2005The SCDF was presented the Singapore H.E.A.L.T.H (Helping Employees Achieve Life-Time Health) Platinum Award by the Health Promotion Board. The Platinum Award is the SCDF"s first, after securing the Gold Award for four years since 2001.
10 Oct 2005The SCDF activated its Ops Lionheart contingent to Muzzaffarabat, one of the worst hit areas in Pakistan when a massive earthquake hit South Asia on 8 Oct 2005.

07 Nov 2005LTC Christopher Tan became the SCDF"s first expatriate in Qatar to render the SCDF"s assistance to the Qatar Civil Defence, a department in the Ministry of Interior.
21 Nov 2005At the PS21 ExCEL Convention, the SCDF was presented with The Enterprise Challenge Shield for developing fire fighting equipment using the Water Mist Technology and the Distinguished Public Service Award for having achieved SQA and other qualifying standards such as ISO 9000 Certification and People Developer Standards.

On Sunday morning, 8 Jan 2006, Exercise Northstar V, the largest civil emergency exercise in Singapore was conducted. It involved multiple agencies responding to multiple incidents and it affected Singapore's land transportation systems. More than 2000 personnel from 22 agencies particpated in the exercise. To instill the element of surprise, the population was not aware of the exact date, time and venue until mere minutes before the exercise.

Since the National Civil Defence Plan and CD Volunteer Scheme were launched in the early 1980s, the SCDF has now taken the volunteer scheme a step further through the establishment of the Civil Defence Auxiliary Unit (CDAU). The CDAU is a voluntary uniformed unit that provides an additional avenue for ex-CD regulars, CD NSmen, as well as members of the public who wish to volunteer their time for a noble cause of saving lives and making Singapore a safer place to live in.

20 Jun 2006The new BRTC, constructed on land occupying approximately 4.4 hectares, is a purpose-built and modern training facility that replaces the former building located at the Jalan Bahar Camp, which was an old army camp reassigned for SCDF's use in 1985.

Each year in the BRTC, about 1,600 enlistees undergo the Basic Rescue Training Course that transforms them into proficient rescuers. With the latest built-in features and precautionary systems at the new premises, the level of safety and effectiveness of training conducted at the school will be greatly enhanced.

Public agencies depend on reliable supplier for their continued operations during a national emergency. In appreciation of their committment and consistent good performance in providing essential goods and services during major emergencies, the Ministry of Defence presented the Total Defence Awards to 12 of these critical suppliers, termed as "Essential Firms", at the Suntec City Convention Centre on 28 Jul 06. Two of the winners, Sodexho Singapore Pte Ltd and S K Fire Pte Ltd, which garnered the Distinguished Defence Partner Award and Meritorious Defence Partner Award, respectively, were nominated by the SCDF.

01 Aug 2006SCDF received the prestigious Dale Carnegie Leadership Award. This is only the second time in the 21-year history of the Award that a Singapore-based organization has won.

The unified NS Portal is a customer-centric website, consolidating all NS eServices and is a tribute to the continuous efforts by the Ministry of Home Affairs (SCDF & SPF) and MINDEF to provide enhanced electronic services to better serve the needs of NS community in Singapore, transcending organisation boundaries and allowing cross-interaction. Leveraging on emergent and popular mobile technologies for improved usability and accessibility to create a common identity, the NS Portal enhances interaction and knowledge sharing in fostering a stronger alliance amongst the NS communities of SCDF, SPF and SAF towards Total Defence.Besides existing NS eTransactions such as Overseas Notification, Exit Permit, eSelf-Update and eClaims, the NS communities can also access a wider range of lifestyle services such as career and financial advice, health tips, travel write ups and restaurant reviews. They will also enjoy commercial offerings such as merchant discounts and vouchers. With the ministries working together, they will be able to secure even more benefits and privileges to bring enhanced value to the NS community.

As an enhancement to the HazMat Transport Vehicle Tracking System (HTVTS), all HazMat transport vehicles were required to install an immobiliser device to enable the SCDF to remotely immobilise them in the event any violation is detected.

01 Sep 2007The online Individual Readiness Assessment (IREA) programme was launched on the SCDF website. The programme allows members of the public to assess their state of readiness against conventional and unconventional threats.

After a 36-hour classification exercise, the SCDF"s Operation Lionheart contingent was certified as a Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team by the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).

05 May - 29 Jun 2008MAJ Ow Yong Tuck Wah was deployed for an international disaster relief effort for Myanmar which was hit by the devastating Cyclone Nargis on 2 May 2008. He was deployed initially as an UNDAC (United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination) team member, and subsequently as the first ASEAN ERAT (Association of Southeast Asian Nations Emergency Rapid Assessment Team) member.
16 - 22 May 2008In response to the massive earthquake which struck Sichuan, People"s Republic of China, on 12 May 2008, the SCDF deployed a 55-strong Operations Lionheart contingent to Shifang County in Sichuan.
20 May 2008A new Ambulance Post was co-located within the Siglap Neighborhood Police Post.
23 May 2008The first batch of 39 rescuers left Chengdu, and arrived at the Paya Lebar Airbase. They were received by Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, and Madam Zhang Xiaokang, People"s Republic of China Ambassador to Singapore.
23 May 2008Exercise Northstar VI was conducted onboard Superstar Aquarius, involving a simulated fire outbreak. It was the largest maritime exercise held locally, involving 1,600 personnel from 12 agencies.

27 Mar 2009The CDA celebrated its 10th anniversary. The Guest-of-Honour Mr Wong Kan Seng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, launched a time capsule. To be opened only in 2034, the capsule captures the significant milestones in the CDA over the last decade.
27 Mar 2009The 15th CD Skills Competition was held at the Basic Rescue Training Centre. Participants came from Brunei, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Macau SAR, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, with Cambodia as an observer for the first time in this event.
04 Apr 2009The Shelter Open House 2009 was held simultaneously at three CCL MRT (Circle Line Mass Rapid Transit) stations, the Bartley, Lorong Chuan and Bishan stations, to give the public a rare insight into the shelter provisions. These included the protective blast doors, decontamination chambers, stationary CCL trains serving as shelter berths, flexible ventilation ducts, dry toilets and shelteree occupation areas. About 11,205 people turned up for the event.
15 Apr 2009The SCDF enhances its Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS) with the implementation of its new Medical Protocol System (MPS). The MPS incorporates a template of medical queries to allow the call-taker to diagnose the patients" conditions and even provide useful medical instructions prior to the arrival of the ambulance. Advisory is also given to the paramedic enroute to the incident site.
04 - 08 May 2009The SCDF participated in the first ASEAN Regional Forum Volunteer Display of Response on Disaster Relief Exercise in the Philippines. This civil-military exercise was based on a scenario of a category-five typhoon with catastrophic consequences.
15 May 2009In partnership with COSEM (Cooperative of SCDF Employees), CDA successfully conducted the inaugural UN INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group) External Classification Course for 35 officers of the Abu Dhabi Police from the United Arab Emirates. The course prepared them to attain the medium USAR Team status.
15 May 2009The new Mini LFAV (Light Fire Attack Vehicle) was launched by DPM and Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Wong Kan Seng, when he graced the SCDF Workplan Seminar held at CDA as the Guest-of-Honour. The other innovation highlights featured in the extensive exhibition segment included the Hazmat Mitigation Vehicle (HMV) and the Backpack Water Mist Gun.
19 May 2009After 17 years at the helm, Comr James Tan handed over the command of the SCDF to DC Peter Lim, at the Change-of-Command Parade held at BRTC. Mr Benny Lim, Permanent Secretary (Home Affairs), presented Comr Tan with a Successful Command Plague in appreciation of his exemplary services to the SCDF.
30 May 2009The NCDCC (National Civil Defence Cadet Corps) held its inaugural parade at BRTC, graced by Mr Charles Chong, MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.
01 Jun 2009Ten ambulances from two Private Ambulance Operators, Lentor Ambulance Pte Ltd and Unistrong Technology (S) Pte Ltd, commence their operations as part of the SCDF Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS). Deployed at ten fire stations across the island, they operate daily from 0800hrs to 2000 hrs, except on Sundays.

19 Jun 2009A new Diploma in Fire Safety Engineering was launched at a ceremony held at the Heritage Gallery. The course aims to equip participants to meet the new challenges posed by the development of complex and uniquely-designed building projects in Singapore.
06, 07, 15 Jul 2009SCDF participated in Exercise Northstar VII, which was conducted in two phases, with phase one on 6 and 7 July 2009 and phase two on 15 July. Based on the scenario of coordinated seaborne terrorist attacks akin to the Mumbai attacks in November 2008, ten incidents took place at various landmarks such as the Raffles Place MRT Station, VivoCity Shopping Mall and the Rasa Sentosa Resort, involving 2,000 personnel from 15 agencies.
15 Jul 2009Comr Peter Lim launched the SCDF InnoventureClub in Sentosa. It was formed by 30 officers with exemplary track records in participation in innovation-related activities. Club members are given exposure to innovation projects and would be groomed with creativity and innovation skills.
3 Aug 2009At the NFEC (National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council) Seminar 2009 at Concorde Hotel, Comr Peter Lim launched the "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Outreach Programme. The month-long "ICE" campaign was held at various shopping malls and MRT stations in September 2009.
12 Aug 2009The CDAU (Civil Defence Auxiliary Unit) Portal was officially launched. It allows CDAU members to update their personal particulars, apply leave and make enquires on core CDAU duties. It also facilitates the recruitment process.
17 - 21 Aug 2009SCDF hosted the ACDM (ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management) Working Group on Risk Assessment, Monitoring and Early Warning Meeting, at HQ 2nd CD Division. The meeting was initiated to identify gaps and future challenges pertaining to disaster risk assessment and monitoring in the ASEAN region, and to chart the strategic framework for the next five years.
01 Sep 2009The Central Fire Station Centenary Celebration was held at the station itself. Graced by Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, the event was also a fund-raising dinner, with $26,000 raised for a SCDF-adopted charity, the St Andrew"s Cathedral Home for the Aged. A month-long Photography Competition and Children"s Drawing Competition were held in the station in September 2009 as part of the centenary celebration.
08 Sep 2009Comr Peter Lim officially opened the Music and Performance Art Club (MPAC) Studio at BRTC on 8 September 2009. MPAC serves to nurture the music and performing arts talents among our NSFs and regulars.
15 Sep 2009The Civil Defence Day Parade, held at BRTC, was graced by Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee. NCDCC cadets participated in the parade for the first time. Professor Ho unveiled "FireFLY" as the name for Mini LFAV, which was one of the latest SCDF innovations. The naming contest was open to the public in August 2009, with Ms Joyce Chiong Si Hui clinching the grand prize of $1,000.
25 " 27 Sep 2009Singapore successfully hosted the second SingTel-Formula 1 Night Race from 25 to 27 September 2009, with SCDF deploying 600 personnel and 65 appliances to provide emergency response services.
01 Oct 2009A contract signing ceremony between SCDF and ST Electronics (Info-Software Systems) Pte Ltd was held at HomeTeam NS @ Bukit Batok. ST Electronics Pte Ltd had been awarded the $34 million contract to provide the next generation command and control system for SCDF, called the Advanced C³ (Command, Control and Communication) Emergency System, or ACES.

21 to 23 Oct 2009SCDF hosted the inaugural ASEAN Seminar on CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives) Consequence Management, at the Grand Corpthorne Waterfront Hotel.
27 Oct 2009The CD (Civil Defence) Lionhearter Club was launched in Singapore Polytechnic. The CD Lionhearters would be trained in emergency response skills, be involved in SCDF outreach programmes, and function as Community Engagement Ambassadors to mitigate communal tensions on campus grounds. It was the first SCDF engagement of tertiary students in civil defence issues.
29 Oct " 01 Nov 2009SCDF, Singapore Police Force (SPF) and HQ Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) organised the inaugural Homefront Security Ambassador Camp 2009 at the National Community Leadership Institute. 60 students from 13 secondary schools within the Home Team Eastern Sector were taught the skills and knowledge of the community outreach programmes of SCDF, SPF and MHA. These are Community Emergency Preparedness Programme, Crime Prevention Programme and Community Engagement Programme respectively.
01 Nov 2009At the National Day Awards Investiture at NUS Cultural Centre on, H.E. President S R Nathan presented the Meritorious Service Medal to Mr James Tan, Ex-Commissioner SCDF. Mr Heng Chai Liang was awarded the Public administration Medal (Bronze). Professor V Anantharaman, Chairman of the SCDF Medical Advisory Committee was presented the Public Service Medal.
8 - 15 Nov 2009670 SCDF personnel were on standby to provide emergency response coverage for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which featured eminent leaders from the Asia Pacific region.
12 Nov 200918 SCDF operations received the Minister"s Award for Operational Excellence for their professionalism and achievements in mounting successful operations.
19 Nov 2009The Music and Performance Art Club successfully held the "NSF"s Got Talent" Competition on in BRTC, which showcased many budding talents in SCDF.
25 Nov 2009115 SCDF officers were honoured at the Investiture of the 2009 National Day Awards and the SCDF Overseas Service Medal. One officer was awarded the Commendation Medal, six were awarded the Efficiency Medal, 63 were awarded the Long Service Medal and 45 were awarded the SCDF Overseas Service Medal.
07 Dec 2009SCDF cleans the Lower Seletar Reservoir, commencing the "SCDF Waters Programme" in which it adopts waterways and reservoirs for quarterly clean-ups and maintenance.

SCDF collaborated with the Ministry of Education to produce the Junior CD Emergency Handbook, a simplified version of the CD Emergency Handbook which was distributed to all households in 2008. Presented in the engaging Manga comic style, it would be distributed to Primary Four students from April 2010 onwards to teach them emergency procedures in a fun way.

05 - 07 Apr 2010During his Vietnam trip, Comr Peter Lim signed a Letter of Co-operation with the Hanoi Fire Division to facilitate exchange of information and best practises. Commissioner also presented the Superbounce gift to his counterpart. Deputy Prime Minster and then Minister for Home Affairs Mr Wong Kan Seng witnessed both events.
08 - 10 Apr 2010SCDF applied for and was granted by the court to enforce a Fire Hazard Order (Prohibition Order) against the management of Mustafa Centre, for their repeated fire safety violation. For 40 hours from 1600hrs on 8 April to 0800hrs on 10April 2010, no retail activities were allowed on the first floor of the shopping centre.
09 Apr 2010The SCDF Workplan Seminar was held at the Civil Defence Academy, graced by then Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mr K Shanmugam. After the keynote speeches, the CDA Parade Square held an exhibition to showcase SCDF"s innovations and developments. This exhibition attracted more than 9,000 visitors on 10 April, which was the occasion for the SCDF Community Bonding Day.
15 Apr 2010The Red Rhino 2.0, also known as the Light Fire Attack Vehicle (LFAV) 2.0, became operational. An improvement on the earlier version introduced in 2000, Red Rhino 2.0 is 10% smaller and 40% lighter than the earlier version, but delivers the same performance, is more environmentally-friendly and can access even tighter and narrower spaces during operations.
20 Apr 2010Nine officers from Tuas Fire Station were presented the ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) Commissioner"s Commendation Silver Award for their excellent teamwork with ICA counterparts on 12 June 2008 in foiling an attempted smuggling of 375 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore at the Tuas Checkpoint.
3 - 14 May 2010CDA hosted the International Disaster Management Course with 24 international participants. The addition of pioneer participants from Cameroon, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago enabled CDA to reach the milestone of 100 countries on its CDA World Map.
14 May 2010SCDF was awarded the Institute of Public Relations Singapore (IPRS) PRISM Award for "Best Crisis and Issues Management" at the PRISM Awards 2010 ceremony. Held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in the Marina Bay Sands, the ceremony recognised PR agencies, MNCs, Government Ministries, Statutory Boards, public-listed companies, private firms and non-profit organisations for their creativity, originality and application of PR practices across different sectors.
21 May 2010SCDF was awarded the Public Service Premier Award 2010 on 21 May 2010 at the Excellence in Public Service Awards Ceremony held at the Sheraton Towers Hotel. The award recognises public organisations for achieving business excellence standards administered by SPRING Singapore.

Mr K Shanmugam, then Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, graced the occasion and launched the inaugural PA-SCDF CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) Award to recognise the CERTs which had rendered effective assistance during fire and other emergencies.

27 Sep 2010Two 3-wheeler Fire Bikes and two Fast Response Paramedic (FRP) Bikes became operational in SCDF. They will replace the 2-wheeler bikes currently used by our Fire Bikers and FRPs. The 3-wheeler Fire Bike is equipped with a Backpack Compressed Air Foam (CAF) system that effectively extinguishes fires using less water, while the 3-wheeler FRP Bike carries an Automatic External Defibrillator for cardiac cases. This marked the SCDF foray into the CAF system, a breakthrough in our fire fighting technology.
01 Oct 2010SCDF officers started deploying the PASS (Product Acoustics Signature System) Detector when they attend to cases of possible violations of Petroleum and Flammable Materials regulations. The detector accurately identifies unknown chemicals contents within sealed containers.

18 - 22 Oct 2010CDA conducted the inaugural Induction Course for the ASEAN Emergency Response Assessment Team (ERAT), with 17 participants from eight ASEAN members. The ASEAN-ERAT responds to disasters within the region by conducting rapid on-site disaster assessment and providing humanitarian assistance.
29 Oct 2010At the MHA InnoFest (Innovative Festival) held at ITE College West, SCDF won the Home Team Product Innovation Of The Year (Gold Award) for its DigiPen system, under its project title iSAVE. iSAVE also received a Certificate Of Commendation for the Best PS21 Project.

22 Nov - 03 Dec 2010Four SCDF firefighters and four paramedics were attached to Hong Kong Fire Services Department (HKFSD), based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between SCDF and the HKFSD on 15 December 2009 to foster closer collaboration. In return, SCDF hosted four HKFSD officers in March 2011 for a one-week attachment.
09 Nov 2010  SCDF successfully renewed and was awarded the Service Quality Award (SQA) certification for five years, at the Business Excellence Gala Dinner held at the St. Regis Singapore.
02 Dec 2010All SCDF ambulances, Fast Response Paramedic Bikes and Private Ambulance Operators engaged by SCDF were equipped with the DigiPen, which is a real-time, electronic patient data system used by the paramedics, eliminating the previous manual data entry system.
03 Dec 2010Comr Peter Lim received the Public Sector Volunteer of the Year Award from President S R Nathan at the National Volunteerism and Philanthropy Awards ceremony held at the Istana. SCDF was the first recipient of this new award which recognises the best practices in community involvement to encourage the spirit of giving, such as corporate philanthropy.

This was also the handbook"s 20th anniversary in print. A new series of both iPhone and iPad Applications produced by SCDF was simultaneously launched to facilitate easy access to emergency preparedness information via mobile phones.
10 Dec 2010SCDF and the Singapore Police Force conducted the annual joint enforcement blitz during the festive season to heighten fire safety awareness. Civil Defence Auxiliary Unit enforcement officers were deployed for the first time alongside regular SCDF officers during the raids.
