Unsung heroes behind SCDF’s logistics support

Behind every lifesaving mission that SCDF responds to, an equally significant group is working quietly behind the scenes. These unsung heroes ensure that our emergency responders are fully equipped and well-prepared to carry out their mission to protect and save lives and property.

Captain (CPT) Muhammad Johan Bin Jamil, Staff Officer (Ops Resources) at Logistics Department, HQ SCDF, works closely with the Equipment Maintenance Branch, overseeing the timely replacement and renewal of operational equipment for frontliners, such as breathing apparatus. “When we successfully equip our frontliners with reliable equipment and gear, we know that our efforts in the background have paid off," said CPT Johan.

Staff Sergeant (SSG) Azmi Bin Abdul Samad, an Operations Logistics Specialist from the Corporate Services Hub (West), takes immense pride in his role. Apart from managing the inventory of uniforms and firefighting gear, he plays a pivotal role during major events at the Civil Defence Academy. "From daily training to graduation parades, my team and I ensure seamless backend support. In addition, we help to maintain the infrastructure within the academy, from the plumbing, electrical to air conditioning systems. We ensure that all systems run effectively to facilitate the smooth running of training, exercises, and courses.”

Major (MAJ) Lim Zhong Yi, a Supply Management Officer from the Corporate Services Hub (East), manages the delivery of essential equipment and supplies. He prefers a hands-on approach gathering feedback from the ground units to enhance SCDF’s operational capabilities. "Apart from logistics and procurement, we strive for continuous improvement and value-add in our logistics support," MAJ Lim remarked.

Last but not least is Ms Neo Sok Hong, Senior Staff Officer (Ops Contracts) at Logistics Department, HQ SCDF. Ms Neo drafts and manages contracts for medical services, equipment and supplies. "It is truly a rewarding feeling, when we know that our efforts behind the scenes have given our paramedics everything they need to save lives," she said.
