SCDF Deploys 2 More Officers to Philippines
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has deployed two more officers to the Philippines. The officers, who were also deployed to the Philippines (Tacloban City) during last year’s Typhoon Haiyan, departed Changi International Airport this evening.
Under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the SCDF officers will be reinforcing the UN’s Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team. The SCDF officers, who are info-comms specialists, will provide the UNDAC team with information technology (IT) and communications support, which is critical for the overall coordination of the humanitarian relief efforts.
Note: On 5th December, SCDF deployed an officer to the Philippines as part a 6-man ASEAN- Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ERAT). Under the auspices of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre), the ERAT’s primary function is to provide rapid assessment and determine the critical resources (e.g. tents, medical kits, and sanitation facilities) required for the areas affected by the typhoon. A news release on this deployment was sent out to all media on 5th December 2014 at about 11PM.
