Kelantan, Floods (2014)

In December 2014, Malaysia experienced one of its worst floods in decades. The flooding was caused by continuous heavy rainfall brought along by the Northeast Monsoon. Flooding occurred in several areas in the Malaysia Peninsular, such as Johor, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang and Terengganu.

 

On 30 December 2014, the number of displaced population amounted to 247,104 people.

As part of the Singapore’s Whole-of-Government flood relief efforts, 4 SCDF Officers departed from Singapore on a C-130 military aircraft on Wednesday, 31 December at 1500hours for Kelantan, Malaysia.

 

Together with the Singapore Armed Forces and the Mercy Relief, the SCDF officers set-up and operated water purification units that were brought from Singapore at the affected area to help in ensuring that clean water is made available to the flood victims.

 

The team also shared the knowledge of operating the water purification units with their Malaysian counterparts.

 

The SCDF team returned to Singapore on 14 January 2015 after the Malaysia government declared its Recovery and Reconstruction Phase.
