The Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS) was set up in March 2013 to examine how the NS system could be strengthened for the future and to better serve Singapore and Singaporeans. On 10 Jun 2014, the Government accepted all 30 recommendations of the CSNS. For more information on the CSNS, you can refer to the following website www.strengthenNS.sg
To further acknowledge the contributions of our ORNSmen, CSNS advertisements will be displayed on the platform screen doors of four MRT stations – Clementi, Novena, Tiong Bahru, and Pasir Ris, from 16 July 2014 - 30 July 2014. In addition, from 17 July 2014 to 30 July 2014, the same advertisements will be placed at 300 bus stops across Singapore.

The Force Transformation Office (FTO) was set up under the Strategic Planning Department. The FTO comprises an SSO Transformation Development and two Transformation Development Assistants.
The FTO’s main role is to conceptualise and plan strategies that will transform the Force and enable it to better meet future challenges. The office will act as an entity that will synergise and drive transformational strategies across the Force.

SCDF Day and Singapore Global Firefighters and Paramedics Challenge (SGFPC) 2013
For the first time, the SCDF Day Parade was held jointly with the Singapore-Global Fire Fighters and Paramedics Challenge (SGFPC). It was also the first time that the events were held at a public venue at the Singapore Expo, Hall 1.
Graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr S Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry, the two-in-one event started with the parade segment led by Parade Commander LTC Alan Chow. The parade involved about 400 participants comprising SCDF Senior Officers, Emergency Response Specialists, Full-time National Servicemen (NSF), Operationally-Ready National Servicemen (ORNSmen) and the National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC) members.

MHA extended the retirement age of officers under the Home Affairs Uniformed Services (HUS).
Prior to 1 October 2013, the retirement age of uniformed Junior Officers was 50 years while that of Senior Officers was 55 years. From 1 October 2013, the retirement age for both Junior and Senior Officers was 55 years. In addition, eligible officers was offered the opportunity to work beyond 55 years till 60 years, on extension of service. This was dependent on organisational needs and the officer’s performance, conduct and fitness.
The Home Team valued the skills and expertise of our uniformed officers. About 180 uniformed officers reached retirement age each year. The extension of retirement age would allow our uniformed officers to have a longer career with the Home Team and the Home Team to tap on their knowledge, experience and expertise built up over the years.

As part of SCDF’s continuous effort to enhance operational coverage, Choa Chu Kang Fire Post was relocated from Blk 281 Choa Chu Kang Ave 3 to Blk 753 Choa Chu Kang North 5.
It had in its inventory, a fleet of 3 emergency vehicles, comprising 1 Red Rhino, 1 Fire bike and 1 Ambulance.

ARDEX 2013 was officially opened on Monday, by Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, H.E. Hoang Trung Hai.

SCDF officers assisting in coordination of relief efforts in Philippines
Two SCDF info-communications specialists (CPT Fhadley Meselan from the Civil Defence Academy and WO2 Ridzal Mohamed Hussein from Tuas Fire Station) were deployed to the Philippines (Tacloban city) to support the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) Team in the coordination of relief efforts.
The Typhoon (Haiyan) is considered as one of the strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded. The estimated death toll (as of 12 Nov) released by The Philippines Government is 4,460.
