On 25 October 2022, in commemoration of 55 years of National Service (NS55), the Civil Resources Unit (CRU) under SCDF’s Logistics Department, partnered with Thye Hua Kwan Senior Care Centre @ Kaki Bukit (THKSCC) to organise a charity event with the theme “When Lifesaving Meets Caregiving”. The SCDF Operational Ready National Servicemen (ORNSmen) from CRU HQ, Bravo Company, served as SCDF’s charity ambassadors and passionately contributed their time and efforts during the event.
Formed in 2002, the SCDF Combo band have been providing music performances at major events such as the SCDF Pride and Care Day Ceremony, Singapore-Global Firefighters & Paramedics Challenge (SGFPC), at the Home Team Festival and at various awards ceremonies.
This year, SCDF is the sole recipient for the Business Transformation Award, a first for the Force since the award was introduced in 2019.
For the first time in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation celebrated its 57th year of independence with a full-scale National Day Parade (NDP22). In preparation for NDP22, the marching contingents started sharpening their foot drills since 7 May at the Seletar Camp. Combined rehearsals for the ceremonial parade were subsequently held at the Marina Bay floating platform from June 2022 onwards. Rescue 995 interviewed two chief trainers for the SCDF and National Civil Defence Cadet Corp (NCDCC) marching contingents, as well as a student cadet from the NCDCC marching contingent, who shared their memorable experiences in being part of this year’s National Day celebration.
Fifteen years ago, on 19 June, MX Munawar bin Zainudin was officially ‘promoted’ to the role of a father with the birth of his first child, A’zizy Mui’zzuddin bin Munawar. What makes this Father’s Day doubly special is that A’zizy’s birthday coincidently falls on the Father’s Day this year!
Meet two of our Full-time National Servicemen, Corporal (NSF) Noah Lim Tian Run and Lance Corporal (NSF) Muhammad Syakir Bin Jeffry, who participated in the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from 12 May to 23 May 2022. CPL (NSF) Noah, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from Alexandra Fire Station, clinched the gold medal in Ju-jitsu while LCP (NSF) Muhammad Syakir, a firefighter from Tuas Fire Station, took the joint-bronze medal in Pencak Silat for Team Singapore.
SCDF has been deeply committed in driving our digital transformation and has embarked on a mission to inculcate a digitally ready and innovative-minded workforce. On 24 January 2022, what was previously known as Innoventure Land was officially rebranded as the Lifesavers Innovation and Technology (LIT) Space. Its soft launch was officiated by Comr Eric Yap, Commissioner SCDF.
On 28 October 2021, the Home Team Volunteer Network (HTVN) celebrated its decennial anniversary and held a virtual event to honour its pool of dedicated volunteers. Four outstanding volunteers were recognised for their leadership, strong commitment and active participation in volunteering for the Home Team (HT). Sixteen other HT volunteers received the Commendation Award for their exemplary service.
Despite the evolving pandemic situation, this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) brought together Singaporeans from all walks of life to celebrate Singapore’s 56th year of independence.
On 11 January 2021, over 1,000 SCDF officers involved in front-line healthcare operations received their Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccination at the Temporary Medical Centre set-up at HQ SCDF. Prior to the vaccination, these officers were screened for their eligibility, based on their medical history and pre-existing medical conditions. They received their second dose on 1 February 2021. Rescue 995 engaged Paramedic WO1 Mohamed Shafiee bin Jamin and Emergency Medical Technician SGT3 Muhammad Aerzam bin Abdullah on their experience for being one of the first few SCDF officers to be vaccinated.
