Accident Between SBS bus and TIBS bus at Yio Chu Kang Road

At 0946hrs, SCDF received a call about an accident involving 2 buses. As a result of the accident, the driver of the SBS bus was trapped in his seat.

SCDF personnel cut open a portion of the right side of the bus using a power saw to gain access to the driver and used a chain and shackle to lift the dashboard, before extricating the casualty with a hydraulic spreader and cutter. As the driver was pinned in his seat from his waist downwards, the rescue operations had to be executed with extreme caution so as not to further aggravate the injuries.

SCDF paramedics on scene administered intravenous drip and oxygen to stabilize the casualty’s condition throughout the whole operation. A medical team from Tan Tock Seng Hospital was also in attendance in this incident and reinforced the rescue efforts.

The whole rescue operation lasted approximately one and a half hours.
The driver of the SBS bus sustained an open fracture on his left lower leg and a 5cm laceration on his left eyebrow. The driver of the TIBS bus complained of neck and back pain. Both casualties were conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
