Fire At 228/230 Serangoon Road - 7 Rescued

On 22 August 2007 at about 10.55pm, SCDF was alerted to a fire incident at 228/230 Serangoon Road. 1 fire engine, 2 Red Rhinos, 1 support vehicle and 2 ambulances were dispatched by SCDF to mitigate the situation.

SCDF arrived at the incident site within 6 minutes. Upon their arrival, SCDF officers saw 7 people standing on the third floor window ledge of the 3-storey shophouse and thick black smoke billowing from the third floor windows. SCDF firefighters in breathing apparatus sets swiftly conducted simultaneous fire fighting and rescue operations.

SCDF firefighters brought the 7 casualties to safety through the windows of the affected units. One water jet was deployed to fight the fire, which was extinguished within 3 minutes. The fire was confined to the staircase landing between the second and third floor and involved discarded items comprising wooden planks, floor mats and papers. As a result of the fire, the walls surrounding the affected staircase landing suffered heat and smoke damages.

The 7 men did not sustain any injuries. 3 police officers were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
