Shop House Fire at Blk 683 Hougang Avenue 8

This morning at about 01:28 am, the SCDF was alerted to a fire incident at Blk 683, Hougang Avenue 8. One fire engine, one Red Rhino, two Fire Bikes, two support appliances and two ambulances were immediately despatched to the incident location.

SCDF personnel arrived at scene in four minutes and found fire well alight at the three shop units on the ground floor, namely unit no. #01-913, #01-915 and #01-915A. The fire was swiftly bought under control within 15 minutes by SCDF personnel using 3 nos. of water jets upon arrival at scene. The fire was mainly confined to these 3 units. Four residential units above the shop houses were affected by smoke.

As a result of the fire, one female Chinese sustained multiple burns on 80% of her body and was conveyed by SCDF’s ambulance to SGH. Another male victim was found lying motionless at the foot of the staircase between the two shop houses. He was pronounced dead-on-arrival by paramedic at scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
