27 Mar 2009 The CDA celebrated its 10th anniversary. The Guest-of-Honour Mr Wong Kan Seng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, launched a time capsule. To be opened only in 2034, the capsule captures the significant milestones in the CDA over the last decade.
27 Mar 2009 The 15th CD Skills Competition was held at the Basic Rescue Training Centre. Participants came from Brunei, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Macau SAR, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, with Cambodia as an observer for the first time in this event.
4 Apr 2009 The Shelter Open House 2009 was held simultaneously at three CCL MRT (Circle Line Mass Rapid Transit) stations, the Bartley, Lorong Chuan and Bishan stations, to give the public a rare insight into the shelter provisions. These included the protective blast doors, decontamination chambers, stationary CCL trains serving as shelter berths, flexible ventilation ducts, dry toilets and shelteree occupation areas. About 11,205 people turned up for the event.

The SCDF enhances its Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS) with the implementation of its new Medical Protocol System (MPS). The MPS incorporates a template of medical queries to allow the call-taker to diagnose the patients’ conditions and even provide useful medical instructions prior to the arrival of the ambulance. Advisory is also given to the paramedic enroute to the incident site.
4 - 8 May 2009 The SCDF participated in the first ASEAN Regional Forum Volunteer Display of Response on Disaster Relief Exercise in the Philippines. This civil-military exercise was based on a scenario of a category-five typhoon with catastrophic consequences.
15 May 2009 In partnership with COSEM (Cooperative of SCDF Employees), CDA successfully conducted the inaugural UN INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group) External Classification Course for 35 officers of the Abu Dhabi Police from the United Arab Emirates. The course prepared them to attain the medium USAR Team status.
15 May 2009 The new Mini LFAV (Light Fire Attack Vehicle) was launched by DPM and Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Wong Kan Seng, when he graced the SCDF Workplan Seminar held at CDA as the Guest-of-Honour. The other innovation highlights featured in the extensive exhibition segment included the Hazmat Mitigation Vehicle (HMV) and the Backpack Water Mist Gun.
19 May 2009 After 17 years at the helm, Comr James Tan handed over the command of the SCDF to DC Peter Lim, at the Change-of-Command Parade held at BRTC. Mr Benny Lim, Permanent Secretary (Home Affairs), presented Comr Tan with a Successful Command Plague in appreciation of his exemplary services to the SCDF.
30 May 2009 The NCDCC (National Civil Defence Cadet Corps) held its inaugural parade at BRTC, graced by Mr Charles Chong, MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.
11 Jun 2009 LTC Lee Yam Ming handed over the reins of command of 3rd CD Division to LTC Abdul Razak.
19 Jun 2009 A new Diploma in Fire Safety Engineering was launched at a ceremony held at the Heritage Gallery. The course aims to equip participants to meet the new challenges posed by the development of complex and uniquely-designed building projects in Singapore.
