(APHP) Meeting was held at CDA and attended by representatives
from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
Affairs, six APHP Member States - Australia, China, Japan,
New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea – and two Non-Government
Agencies - SingTel and Télécoms Sans Frontières. |

After a 36-hour classification exercise,
the SCDF’s Operation Lionheart contingent was certified
as a Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team by the International
Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG). |

The first Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management
Course was attended by 16 international participants representing
government agencies from around the world – Bangladesh,
Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, the
Philippines, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. |

between the SCDF and the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service

The SCDF Workplan Seminar 2008 was held at the Civil Defence
Academy (CDA) and graced by the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Wong Kan
Seng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs.
The event featured SCDF innovations, and saw the launch of
the SCDF Ready Book. |

MAJ Ow Yong Tuck Wah was deployed for an international disaster
relief effort for Myanmar which was hit by the devastating
Cyclone Nargis on 2 May 2008. He was deployed initially as
an UNDAC (United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination)
team member, and subsequently as the first ASEAN ERAT (Association
of Southeast Asian Nations Emergency Rapid Assessment Team)
member. |

In response to the massive earthquake which struck Sichuan,
People’s Republic of China, on 12 May 2008, the SCDF
deployed a 55-strong Operations Lionheart contingent to Shifang
County in Sichuan. |

A new Ambulance Post was co-located within the Siglap Neighborhood
Police Post. |

The first batch of 39 rescuers left Chengdu, and arrived
at the Paya Lebar Airbase. They were received by Mr K Shanmugam,
Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, and
Madam Zhang Xiaokang, People’s Republic of China Ambassador
to Singapore. |

Exercise Northstar VI was conducted onboard Superstar Aquarius,
involving a simulated fire outbreak. It was the largest maritime
exercise held locally, involving 1,600 personnel from 12 agencies. |

visited the SCDF. |

Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Law and Second Minister for

made their maiden visits to HQ SCDF. |

Four more countries were added to the SCDF World Map which
shows the map of countries which have sent their trainees

Mr Donald Loren, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense,
Homeland Security Integration, Department of Defense, USA,
visited HQ SCDF. |

The SCDF was awarded the prestigious 2008 Singapore HEALTH
Award (Platinum) and the inaugural Mental Wellbeing Award
by the Health Promotion Board. |

The SCDF received the President's Social Service Award 2008
in the Formal Group/Non-Profit/Public Sector Organisation
category at the Istana. |
