Since the National Civil Defence Plan
and CD Volunteer Scheme were launched in the early 1980s,
the SCDF has now taken the volunteer scheme a step further
through the establishment of the Civil Defence Auxiliary
Unit (CDAU). The CDAU is a voluntary uniformed
unit that provides an additional avenue for ex-CD regulars,
CD NSmen, as well as members of the public who wish to volunteer
their time for a noble cause of saving lives and making
Singapore a safer place to live in. |

The new BRTC, constructed on land occupying approximately
4.4 hectares, is a purpose-built and modern training facility
that replaces the former building located at the Jalan Bahar
Camp, which was an old army camp reassigned for SCDF's use
in 1985.
Each year in the BRTC, about 1,600 enlistees undergo the
Basic Rescue Training Course that transforms them into proficient
rescuers. With the latest built-in features and precautionary
systems at the new premises, the level of safety and effectiveness
of training conducted at the school will be greatly enhanced. |

website, consolidating all NS eServices and is a tribute
to the continuous efforts by the Ministry of Home Affairs
(SCDF & SPF) and MINDEF to provide enhanced electronic
services to better serve the needs of NS community in Singapore,
transcending organisation boundaries and allowing cross-interaction.
Leveraging on emergent and popular mobile technologies for
improved usability and accessibility to create a common
identity, the NS Portal enhances interaction and knowledge
sharing in fostering a stronger alliance amongst the NS
communities of SCDF, SPF and SAF towards Total Defence.
Besides existing NS eTransactions such as Overseas Notification,
Exit Permit, eSelf-Update and eClaims, the NS communities
can also access a wider range of lifestyle services such
as career and financial advice, health tips, travel write
ups and restaurant reviews. They will also enjoy commercial
offerings such as merchant discounts and vouchers. With
the ministries working together, they will be able to secure
even more benefits and privileges to bring enhanced value
