  the_ready_bag

Do you know what to do in an emergency?

Are you and your family prepared for one?

Do you have ready the essential items to help you through an emergency?

If not, do consider putting together a Ready Bag.

  • It is a collection of essential items that will help you in an emergency.

  • It can be left in your household shelter or taken to public shelters or during evacuation to any off-site location.

Essential Items

When your Ready Bag is prepared, make sure each member in your household knows where it is kept. The Ready Bag should be ready and easy to get hold of when you need it in an emergency.

Everyone in the family can play a part in being prepared for emergencies. It is easy and inexpensive to prepare a Ready Bag. You may want to go through the checklist of items to include in your Ready Bag with your family. Take turns in the family to check and update your Ready Bag on a regular basis.

Other Considerations when you Pack your Ready Bag

  • Should each member in the household have his/her own Ready Bag? Do what is most practical for your family.

  • Do not pack bulky items into the Ready Bag. A bulky Ready Bag may hamper movement during an emergency.

  • Take note of perishable items. Check expiry dates and replace items periodically.

  • Inform family members of the location of the Ready Bag(s).

NOTE:
The Ready Bag items:

  • are for situations in which you might be evacuated from your home and
  • should be treated separately from the In-Place Protection stockpile items.

For chemical incidents requiring In-Place Protection procedures, you will need to prepare a different set of materials. For more information, read up on the In-Place Protection procedures.
