What Should You Do?

  • Take out the radio and the battery-operated torchlight from the Ready Bag.

Information on situation

  • Turn on your battery- operated radios for information as radio broadcasts will be the most effective means for the public to obtain up-to-date information on a blackout.

Lift Failure and Rescue

  • Call the Emergency Maintenance Service Unit (EMSU) engaged by your Town Council to rescue people trapped in lifts during a blackout.

  • The public should not attempt to rescue person(s) trapped in lifts by themselves as they are not trained and do not possess proper equipment for such rescues.

  • People trapped in a lift should stay calm, press the alarm button in the lift and wait for assistance to arrive.

  • The public should not call the SCDF/Police hotlines unless there is a life threatening situation or there is a need for emergency ambulance services.
